Who is Hussain?
He fought, in defense, to protect and preserve the message of God alongside his family and companions. He sacrificed everything he had in the struggle against tyranny and oppression in order to uphold the human values of truth, justice and liberty of thought, word and deed. He was beheaded, tortured and brutally hurt in a battle with only 72 on his side while facing thousands. Despite the incredible efforts he has made, he was defeated in battle and battle only as the true victory is in the hereafter. He is Imam Hussain son of Fatima AlZahra'a and Ali Ibn Abu Taleb, and grandson of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUT). He was born on January 8th, 626 A.D. and martyred in the Battle of Karbala at the age of 54.
Throughout his life, Hussain- the light of guidance and ark of salvation- was known for his numerous admirable attributes; one of them being mercy. Proven so in his encounter with one of his opposers at the time: AlHurr Bin Yazid AlTamimi, which was one of the many occurrences throughout his life. He stood with his stallions and soldiers in front of Hussain under the scorching heat and Hussain offered the enemies and their horses water, even when he knew that later on they would deprive him of water.
