The Universe Mourns Over Hussain
(Miracles After His Martyrdom)
After Imam Hussain was beheaded and his holy head was put on a spear, he would still recite verses of the Quran. Yazeed Bin Arqam said that in one of the alleys of Al-Koofa someone passed with the spear while he was in a room, and after the man came closer to him, he heard the holy head recite the ninth verse of the Al-Kahf chapter
﷽
أَمْ حَسِبْتَ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْكَهْفِ وَالرَّقِيمِ كَانُوا مِنْ آيَاتِنَا عَجَبًا
“Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among our signs, a wonder” [18:9]
His hair stood on end and he replied, “Your head, oh son of the prophet of God, is more and more wondrous.”
His hair stood on end and he replied, “Your head, oh son of the prophet of God, is more and more wondrous.”
Many aspects of Imam Hussain’s story are latent, but some of them have been exposed by the prophet’s family and descendants. Some events being that the whole world mourned over his slaughter; in which whatever sees and does not see, the seven heavens, seven grounds, and all that is in between them including the sun, planets, terrestrials, and birds all cried over him. Al-Sadiq said, “The sky cried over Jhon, the son of Zechariah, and Hussain, the son of Ali, for forty mornings and has not cried over anyone else.” He was asked, “How does it cry?” He replied, “The sun rises red and sets red.” It was also said by Um Sulaim, “When Hussain died the sky rained rain that was as red as blood, so all houses and walls reddened.” The reddening of the sky remained for six months, and even after that some redness remained.
A book found in British libraries, called ‘The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle’ document the raining of blood and the change of milk and butter to blood in Britain during AD 685, which corresponds with the year 61 of the Islamic calendar, the year Hussain was martyred. (Also found in http://www.britannia.com/history /docs/676-99.html ).
It was also said, “When Hussain was killed, the sun was eclipsed and the planets were seen midday until it was thought that one of those planets was the sun.” Birds refrained from eating on the tenth of Muharram, the day Hussain was slaughtered. God punished those who forbade Hussain from drinking water by causing them to die of thirst no matter how much water they drank.
