The Science of the Holy Quran II

Colonies

For centuries philosophers thought that only humans were rational while animals only followed instinct. This false belief was so entrenched in Arabs that they included it in their grammar, referring to humans as rationals and all other animals, plants and inanimate objects as irrational. However, today scientists have confirmed that animals do not act by instinct alone, as the arabs thought, but rather animals have their own logic and communication systems. That is, they make rational decisions like humans but at a much lower scale. However, the Quran did not make the mistake of the arabs, instead it stated that ants have their own logic and do communicate with their own species.

In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

Quran (27:18) “Until when they came to the Valley of Ants, an ant said: ‘O you ants! Get into your habitations, so that Solomon and his hosts may not crush you, being unaware’.”

This verse also used the word “crush” to describe what will happen to an ant’s body when met with a strong force. This small detail showcases the brilliance of the Holy Quran because in fact an ant’s body does indeed crush rather than get squashed due to its exoskeleton. The exoskeleton of an ant is made of chitin, like cellulose and keratin, it is a structural polymer. The molecules of chitin can form solid structures on their own as in insect wings, or can combine with other components like calcium carbonate to make even stronger substances like the shell of a clam.

Not only does the Quran state that animals communicate with each other, but also that they are nations just like humans are nations.

In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

(Quran6:38) "And there is no creature (that walks) on the earth nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but they are communities the like of you, We have not neglected anything in the Book, then unto their Lord shall they (all) be mustered.”

It is known now that animals do live in communities and have their own languages. The Quran also states that animals and all living beings glorify God, but we cannot comprehend their language.

In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

(Quran 17:44). “The seven heavens and the earth, and every being therein, celebrate His glory, and there is not single thing but glorifies Him with His Praise, but you do not understand their glorification; verily He is Forbearing, Forgiving.”

(Quran 16:49). “And whatever is in the skies and whatever is in the earth, whether (moving) creatures and angels, prostrate before Allah (only) and they do not pride.

(Quran 16:50.) “They fear their Lord (supreme) from above them, and they do what they are commanded.
