Lady Fatima’s Generosity
Fatima Al-Zahra’a lived in a house made out of clay, wore the simplest garments from head to toe, grinded wheat and barley with her bare hands to prepare meals for her family, and attended her children with the utmost love. Yet, she was no ordinary person. Fatima Al-Zahra’a had high moral virtues and her life is full of spiritual behavior. Even on her wedding day, Fatima Al-Zahra’a did not forget those in need.
A girl's wedding dress is probably one of her most cherished belongings. Prophet Mohammad, Lady Fatima’s father, bought her a new dress for her marriage ceremony. A poor woman came to her house and asked for a used item of clothing so, Fatima Al-Zahra’a wanted to give her an old dress as the woman asked, but remembered the verse:
﷽
"Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [benevolently] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, God is Knowing of it." (Noble Qur'an, 3:92). She decided otherwise and gave the lady her new wedding dress, while she wore the old dress to her wedding ceremony.
